Crazy Roosters and Belgians in the Congo--Week 97

Image
This week was both long and short at the same time. I can't believe it's already pday again, but at the same time, we had so many cancelled lessons this week and I was sick so it kind of drug on. Best parts were definitely Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Wednesday I did my last interview with President Bize, which was a wholly touching affair that left me quite nostalgic. He told me a lot of nice things, which were honestly answers to my prayers, and made me feel like I wasn't a total failure on this mission. Even got a hug. Friday the zone leaders announced that apparently our stake wants to do a missionary choir as well, so as soon as one ends the other will start. Super random. We found out about it that very day and had the first rehearsal that evening. It was just fun to go back to the Taravao chapel again, and I even ran into Kevin Brej! The last time we saw each other I was 18 and he was 19, and now we're both in our 20s. Unprecedented. Sunday we ...

I Lied--Week 96

Or rather, I was mistaken. Last week's picture of the map made me look really dumb! I figured out that we weren't exactly on the presqu'ile, but I didn't know we were that far away! I assumed that with us being part of the presqu'ile zone we'd be a lot closer! Apparently our sector used to be part of the a different zone but now we're part of the presqu'ile even though we're so far away. Me and my assumptions. These were all things that I found out later... That being said, things are going very well right now. This week just flew by. The first couple of days we were in a trio (Elder Hollowell's plane to Hao wasn't until Thursday), and it was fun to finally serve with Hollowell (we're friends/know each other from zone conferences, but this was the first time we'd ever been in such close proximity). Each day passed at lightning speed. Tuesday was especially cool because the other coaches and I got to go to President's hous...

us: "what were your expectations in accepting the missionary lessons?" investigator: "you guys came to me!"--Week 95

Such a long week. Monday Our guide got sick. No motu. Tuesday Full day of work. Lots of lessons (and the title of this week's email. ) Wednesday Went to Tahiti for the last multi-zone conference. Just depressing mostly... wrote a nice note in Soeur Bize's journal. Thursday Elder Rybin (one of our zone leaders) took my place at Moorea for the day. I went with his companion, Elder Toriki (Dieutre's trainer) into their sector; Tahara'a. The highlight was the lesson at the end of the day. Met this really potential investigator who has been 100% prepared by the Lord for baptism. He's already been reading the Book of Mormon. We invited him to be baptized that night and he said yes. Really nice after a day of next to no success. Friday Went and saw one last local marriage in an attempt to keep Manari and Vaimiti enthusiastic. I love them a lot. Also went and saw some references. And dont worry, transfer calls didn't happen this night. The...

another uninspired pday email--Week 94

So this week was actually pretty hard. Learned a lot, progressed a lot, relied on the Lord, but frankly, have zero interesting stories. I just realized that I don't even have any pictures. This is just dreadful. No but truly, nothing interesting this week. Tuesday we did a bunch of lessons, most of which were with our new converts (we've got quite a few right now), Wednesday was cool because more people showed up to our sport activity than usual, Thursday was a service project at Marcellino's for the whole day (a bunch of college students were coming down to stay at their bungalos so we helped with the painting), Friday we had a couple of lessons (a pretty nice one with Junior and Tekau, actually) and did weekly planning, and then Saturday was just crappy. Truly, a wretched day. I literally almost fell asleep in one of the lessons we did. Super uninspiring. And this other couple we've been seeing for a while has just drifted further away from us and the church ...
